Camp Wa-Kon-Tah

Give kids a summer full of fun, friends and memories at Y summer camp.

Full-day, traditional day camp at our Lake Springfield Camp Wa-Kon-Tah offers kids an opportunity to spend their summer outdoors and involved in a host of fantastic activities such as canoeing, archery, trail hikes and more. We also offer full and half-day creative camps at both of our branches. As the leader in youth sports in our community, we offer a full array of sport camps too, including soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and fencing. We also offer summer camp in one community where the Y hosts before and after school programs — Rochester.

Welcome to YMCA Summer Camp

YMCA summer camp is where kids go to discover fun, friends, and find new talents. We are so excited for another summer of great activities at Camp  Wa-Kon-Tah, our beautiful Lake Springfield site, both our Y branches and our community-based camp. We have a camp for every child. Camp  Wa-Kon-Tah is for the outdoor adventurers who love exploring, crafts, canoeing, trail hiking, archery and the many active camp games from kickball to Red Rover. Our day campers gain independence, build self-confidence and learn new skills. We have creative camps at both of our branches for the artists, book lovers, performers, scientists and more. We have sport camps that teach the fundamentals of the many sports we love at the Y like soccer, basketball, and volleyball. We also host camp at one of our community school sites in Rochester. The Springfield Y has been hosting summer camps for over 100 years, so we understand summer camp is about making memories that will last a lifetime and meeting forever friends.

Volunteer Opportunity:

Volunteers Needed: SUMMER CAMP MEAL TIME!
*For many of our summer camp children, this food program fills the nutritional gap of a summer away from school. You will be keeping little bellies full who may otherwise not have access to daily breakfast and lunch. They will be ready to learn, play, and have fun!*

We are looking for service minded individuals, youth groups, church groups, office mates, retirees, anyone who wants to help! This summer we need volunteers to serve lunch to kids. We have two locations, the Downtown YMCA at 701 S 4th and our campgrounds, Camp Wa-Kon-Tah, 6602 Ironbridge Road.

The food is catered by Nelsons Catering. The tasks include spooning portions onto plates, pouring milk, assisting young children to tables and other things associated with lunch service.

We understand summer can be a busy time. Even if you can only come one time, we’d be appreciative! The days and times are listed below. Please contact Lisa at 217-544-9846 or lparfitt@springfieldymca.org to sign up for shifts.
